My Mom’s Secret Resilience

After a full day of activities, the house is quiet now, with the rest of the family taking a well-deserved rest. Sitting here at the homestay, scrolling through the photos on my phone, I can’t help but reflect on the past two days. It all started with a wedding yesterday, and since we were already in Perlis, we decided to make the most of it by extending our trip to Langkawi. Although not everyone could join, it’s still a special getaway with just the five of us, My All, my Mom, my Brother, my Sister, and me.

It suppose to be another trip sharing but somehow I thing, I need to share a dedicated post to My Mom.

The ferry ride to Langkawi felt like an adventure in itself, tinged with the kind of unpredictability only nature can bring. We took the last ferry of the day. Fuhhh, late even by Langkawi’s standards. Outside, the world had already surrendered to darkness, the sea restless under the weight of rain and choppy waters that rocked the ferry with every wave. Inside, the biting chill of the air conditioning only added to the discomfort, wrapping us in a cold that seeped through even our layers of clothing. By the time we reached the homestay, it was nearly 10:00 p.m., exhaustion mixing with relief. The delay wasn’t anyone’s fault; it was the tide, that silent, powerful force dictating Langkawi’s ferry schedules. It reminded us of life’s simple truth that we can plan all we want, but sometimes, we just have to adapt to the rhythm of the world around us.

By the time we settled down and checked in, the night felt too short, but we were ready to kick off our Langkawi adventure the next morning with a mangrove trip, a UNESCO site and one of Langkawi’s proudest gems. As we cruised through the serene waterways, I couldn’t help but marvel at the natural beauty surrounding us, but even more so at my mom. This elderly wonder somehow endured the entire journey without a single complaint. She stayed quiet and followed the itinerary diligently, and I couldn’t figure out if it was sheer willpower, excitement, or just her secret fear of being left behind! Maybe she was channeling her inner adventurer or maybe she just didn’t want to be the one to “break the team.” Either way, seeing her navigate this trip with such determination made me proud…and a little suspicious. Perhaps Langkawi has a way of making everyone feel young again, or maybe she’s plotting revenge for making her climb in and out of that boat.

This post is dedicated to My Mom. Huhu
