Stopping Where We Always Pass By

On the way back to Baling for the long Christmas weekend, we made a detour at Lenggong.

It is funny how places close to us are often the ones we overlook the most. Lenggong has always been part of the usual route to Baling. We pass by it without thinking twice, assuming that serenity must exist somewhere farther, somewhere that requires more effort to reach. This time, we decided to stop.

We chose to glamp at Kuak Hill Resort.

The name does not exaggerate. It really is on top of a hill. We parked our car at the lower area and switched to a 4×4 to go uphill. That ride alone felt like a transition. Each turn revealed more of the landscape, trees opening up to wide views, mist hanging low because of the rain. By the time we reached the top, the air felt noticeably colder and cleaner.

It was breathtaking.

Rain had been falling on and off, making everything greener and softer. The kind of cold that makes you slow down without complaining. The kind that makes warm food and quiet moments feel more meaningful.

This time, it was not just me and My All. My brother and sister joined us too. That changed the energy of the stay. There was laughter, movement, shared meals, and small conversations that only happen when siblings are together in a relaxed setting.

We did a barbecue that evening. Nothing complicated. Just food grilling slowly while mist moved across the hilltop. Eating outdoors, surrounded by cool air and distant views, made everything taste better. After that, there was no real agenda. We sat, talked, walked around, and simply took in the surroundings.

Kuak Hill Resort feels thoughtfully arranged. There is space to move, to explore lightly without feeling like you are in a crowded attraction. There is a bird cage area and a small rabbit farm. My sister spent time there, happily playing and interacting with the animals. It added a gentle, playful layer to the experience, especially with the calm atmosphere around us.

There is also a swimming pool. Cold weather did not stop enjoyment. Watching people enjoy the water against the backdrop of hills and mist felt surreal in its own way. Everything felt unhurried. No pressure to do everything. No sense of missing out.

As night settled in, the hill became quieter. Lights glowed softly. Rain returned briefly. We retreated indoors, warmed up, and rested. Sleep came easily, the kind that only happens when your body has fully slowed down.

This trip reminded me of something simple but important. Serenity does not always require long journeys or faraway destinations. Sometimes it exists right along the roads we already travel, waiting patiently for us to notice.

Lenggong was never new to us. But stopping there changed how it felt.

And Kuak Hill Resort gave us the pause we did not know we needed.
