Farewell to JMB, A New Chapter Begins

Today marked the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for our Joint Management Body (JMB), which also meant one thing, my final day as a JMB member. It’s been a fulfilling journey, and while I leave with a sense of accomplishment, I also feel a newfound sense of freedom.

The quorum today was the smallest ever, relatively speaking. Compared to previous years, the turnout was surprisingly low. But if we look at it positively, fewer attendees mean fewer complaints, which could only mean one thing, we did a great job managing things. If people had major grievances, they would have shown up in full force. So, I’ll take the small quorum as a silent approval of our work.

This year, the JMB consists of seven members instead of ten, which I believe is a good balance. Too many members can slow down decision-making, while too few can be overwhelming. In our first year, we had only five members, last year ten, and now seven and a number that feels just right.

What’s also interesting is that from last year’s ten members, only four returned, and from our very first year, only one remains. Since JMB members can only serve for three terms, this will be his final year. It’s a sign of fresh leadership and rotation, which is always a good thing for a healthy management body.

The AGM itself went smoothly and all resident proposals were approved without much debate, and the transition to the new JMB team was seamless. To the new JMB members, I wish you all the best! Good luck, and may you serve well.

Through this journey, I also want to take a moment to thank My All for her silent yet significant contributions. From listening to my endless stories about JMB matters, giving insightful ideas, supporting me in the background, and being my go-to sounding board, it all meant a lot. Having someone who understands, even without being officially involved, makes all the difference.

As for me, with JMB duties now behind me, I’m already looking for a new platform to stay active. The Resident Society seems like an interesting option, especially since JMB needs proper check and balance (not that I’ll be making their lives difficult, haha). But I hear their AGM is only after Hari Raya, so we’ll see if my schedule allows it by then.

For now, stepping away from JMB feels like a weight lifted off my shoulders. No more meetings, no more endless responsibilities, well, just a well-earned break. But before I move on completely, a big thank you to all past and present JMB members. You’ve done a fantastic job, and I truly appreciate the work we’ve put in together.

Here’s to new beginnings!
