Back to School: A New Chapter at UKM

This year marked a big milestone: I officially returned to student life and began my Master’s in Political Science at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Classes started online during Ramadhan, which gave me time to ease into the academic rhythm. But once Raya passed and we transitioned to physical classes, everything felt real. Meeting my coursemates in person, walking into lecture halls again, it brought back a sense of excitement I hadn’t felt in years.

UKM has its own vibe. It’s different from UM, where I did my undergrad, and it’s clear both institutions carry their own identity and spirit. I’m learning to appreciate UKM’s strengths, the environment, the diversity, the little quirks that make it what it is.

Of course, some things never change. Parking is a daily struggle, and I’ve accepted that walking sometimes across campus is just part of the lifestyle now. But that has its perks too. I’ve already explored the library (which has quickly become one of my favourite spots), and discovered more than a few good places to eat. Trust me, the food here is better than I expected.

Assignments have started rolling in, and the pressure is building but so is the momentum. I feel like I’m exactly where I need to be: learning, questioning, evolving. This journey isn’t just academic. It’s also personal. A test of focus, discipline, and passion.

There’s a certain energy when you return to school not because you have to, but because you choose to. This time, I’m doing it with intention.
