A Breath of Mist: One Night in Cameron Highlands

It was a short weekend trip just one night but it brought more peace than expected.

We arrived in Cameron Highlands around 12 noon on Saturday. After the long, winding drive up, we stopped for lunch in Tanah Rata a cosy little café serving hearty Western food. Pasta for one, fish and chips for the other. Warm, satisfying, and just what we needed before the day unfolded.

With time to spare before check-in, we took a stroll to the MARDI Agro Technology Park. It turned out to be one of the best decisions of the trip. The park was peaceful, with blooming flowers, landscaped gardens, and walking trails that gave us both a workout and a breath of fresh, cool highland air. A quiet moment to reconnect with nature.

After that, we checked into our hotel. The cool air greeted us like an old friend. No rushing. Just letting the stillness sink in.

That evening, we headed to the Pasar Malam. The crowd was thick, the night alive with smells of grilled corn, strawberries dipped in chocolate, and the familiar chatter of tourists and locals. We picked up a few things for dinner, then returned to the hotel to enjoy our meal on the balcony, overlooking the distant mountains. No fancy restaurant just street food, fresh air, and a view that made everything taste better.

Day 2: Two Wheels and Tea Leaves

We made a smart call the next morning to rent a motorcycle from the hotel. Traffic was still heavy (the news said 10km took 5 hours the day before), but with two wheels, we had the upper hand.

Our first stop: Kea Farm. A quick walk around fresh produce stalls and souvenir shops. We didn’t stay long just enough to soak in the colors and snap a few photos.

Then off to the BOH Tea Plantation. The ride itself was scenic, winding through narrow roads and tall trees. Sipping freshly brewed tea while gazing at endless green hills it grounded us in a way that city life rarely does.

Before heading back, we stopped at Taman Indah Strawberry Farm for tea and scones. It was quiet, not as crowded as the main spots, and the scone was surprisingly good. A simple indulgence.

Back at the hotel, we packed up, returned the motorcycle, and made our way home.

Just one night. But the cool air, warm tea, and mountain views lingered far longer. Sometimes, you don’t need a long getaway to feel recharged just the right place, and the right pace.
